Like Father...

A budding artist at workMy oldest son got a 'How to Draw Comics' book for Christmas from his Uncle (not me!) and he's been making his way through it. Above is a sample of his latest art. I'm really proud of his hard work...excellent stuff!

Ready For Print

Crowman promo' single pageWith the single page Crowman promo' (see above snippet) now finished, Jack in the Box # 1 is ready to go to Redlins Print.

24 pages, including front/ back (inner/ outer) covers, with 20 pages of actual JITB strip. Due to the way JITB is coloured, I have to sort the mechanics of how we're doing the spot red (magenta)...My knowledge of print goes back to the days of litho, where you had to output a separate plate for each colour. It may be that Redlin are 100% digital and will just extract what they need from the pdf document...I hope so! I'll call them on Monday.

Meanwhile, after a couple of day's break from drawing, I'll be starting on Crowman # 1. With nearly 4 months to go until the Bristol convention, chances are that I'll have it ready. So, 3 comics (JITB/ LOTCH/ Crowman) for C2D4's portfolio....excellent!

Preview 1 - 'The Hack'

The HackThe first of the preview pages for the inner covers of JITB # 1. This is a taster for 'The Hack' and that's all I'm going to tell you about it, as it's rather a cool concept (though Martin and I say so ourselves) and we're not giving anything away. :)

Next on the to-do list, a full page of 'Crowman for preview # 2, and then a C2D4 one-page ad, incorporating website details and some character cameos...then JITB # 1 will be off to the printers.

Happy New Year!

JITB # 1Happy new year! This my first post of 2008 due to me being snowed under with kids/ work/ drawing. :)

C2D4 (Martin and I's company) has got off to a good start. We've registered our company trademark. Plus we've finished our first collaboration started in the last few days of October 2007. 'Jack in the Box', our tale of sensorary deprivation, grinning purple primates, and subterranean evil, is done...at least the first issue is anyway! See above for the front cover.

I'll be starting Crowman # 1 soon (Martin's story) and we'll also be getting our heads together to start work on plotting my idea 'The Hack' which is going to be quite an ambitious project. Meanwhile Martin keeps scripting JITB/ Crowman, and I'll be drawing previews of Chickenheads/ Crowman/ The Hack for inclusion in the inner front/ back covers of JITB # 1...before we send it off to the printers.

By the time May comes along, with the Bristol Comic Convention, we hope to have 2, maybe even 3, comics to sell, to show the unsuspecting comics world what we can do.

Exciting times for both of us. A lot of hard work ahead, but it's going to be really satisfying if we can pull it off.
