The Book That Got Me Started

beautiful illustrations inside this bookMy parents bought this book when it was published way back in 1975, and I fell in love with it, taking it over as my own property. I was fascinated both with its subject matter, and especially with the fantastic full colour illustrations of dinosaurs. The realism of the drawings really captured my six year old imagination, and I'd spend hour after hour slavishly copying every scaly, sinewy, plated detail in pencil, onto any scrap of paper or pad I could find.

This eventually gave way to me copying Marvel (Kirby/ Buscema etc), and then DC comics (Buckler & Giordano/ Garcia Lopez)...finally resulting in me putting copying aside at last, and taking my first tentative steps creating my own comics when I was 13.

But I've never forgotten this book, and it still resides on my book case, a little bit worn, but, considering its age, in extremely good condition. And, rather ironically, it will be used once again as a source of reference...this time for the last few pages of 'Chickenheads'.

Tyrone is on his way :)

Ten

the end is nighMilestone number 2.....

I've been working like a bastard on Chickenheads, with my eyes pretty much permanently bleeding in their sockets from the excessive screen time, and I've got myself into quite a nice position:

Only ten pages to go!

In fact, if I count the double page spread (only two more pages until I can tackle this beauty) as one page, I'm now counting down in single figures!

Ah, but then there's the front cover needs doing :)

Inner City Chicken

chickenheads page 32Frank's finally back in the same city as Bruno, and this means I'm 14 pages away from the end.

That's (fingers crossed) 2 months. :)

Milestone

page 30...steadily closing in on targetI've finished page 30. This is a milestone for me, as I've never gone beyond twenty odd pages in a project up until now.

I pencilled page 31 today, so it really is going well. I'll be getting a busy patch coming up soon with web design (not just the usual daily updates, but some new sites and redesigns) plus the kids' end-of-term is nigh. 6 weeks + summer break, where I'll have to put in a couple of hours before they wake up, and lay off the red wine so I can do a bit at night as well. Bah.

4 hours a day should allow me to still meet my schedule of 46 pages by September.
