Welcome to the website of UK cartoonist and comics artist Tony Wicks. Here you will find galleries of strip cartoons and comic strips, illustrations, story boards, script/ story concepts and various other personal galleries and projects, such as life drawing and sketches. There are also regular news and blog updates.
Tony is currently collaborating with script writer Martin Buxton co-creating original comic strips available to buy on the internet at C2D4, and at the UK comic conventions they regularly attend. He also welcomes commissions, and collaborations, for commercial work and anthologies.
Keep your eyes peeled for all-original serialised titles such as Last of the Chickenheads, Jack in the Box, Crowman, The Hack, and many others. |
Phase 3
The comic is making pretty good progress, and I'm nearly at 'phase 3'. I have to think of it in those terms, because I approach it in bite sized chunks...partly to keep a coordinated work flow happening, but mostly so I don't get discouraged by a perceived LACK of progress. But that's a fallacy, because I'm keeping up the 6 pages per month routine that I'd promised myself, even down to colouring/ lettering the buggers now. So with phase 2 winding down (the finishing off of the second batch of 6 pages...colouring and lettering) I've actually scripted pages 13 - 18 already. This is an introduction to the Lion character, Bruno, and the story switches to his point of view for a bit. The sympathetic villain ploy. :) It is also the build up to the first major action sequence in the story (I am seriously looking forward to scripting/ drawing pages 19 - 24) and so I'm hoping to keep the pages churning out at a good pace to reach this point swiftly.
There's a comics convention coming up in May in Bristol. But there's no way I'll have 'Chickenheads' ready for it, and I really wanted to show the whole thing to people, rather than half, backed up with a load of waffle and a few pages of left over script. Tough call really. Do I show it in part, or do I just go to the convention and soak up the comicky vibes? I'll have to think about this VERY carefully :)
